I've tried reducing the size of the canvas to 1280x720 - no luck. I tried downgrading to 25.0.4, since the problem started happening roughly around the time of 25.0.8, but no joy. And I have killed everything else that shows any CPU usage like the browser and any daemons. No, a reboot doesn't fix it, at least not any more. I could fork out for fresh hardware, but I fear that would not actually find the root of the problem. it happens less often if the machine is less loaded) and then the CPU spikes don't hit 100%, but the hiccup still happens. It is affected by how much spare CPU there is (ie. So yes, it happens with just OBS, so the problem is there and probably not in Zoom or OBS-virtualcam, they just make it more visible.

Even more odd, Windows task manager reports that it is Zoom, not OBS that is using more CPU, and it reports the same for Skype or Hangout or other programs using the virtualcam.Įxcept if you kill zoom, it still happens, in fact even if you kill the virtualcam it still happens (though not as much) with it now reporting that OBS has had the spike in CPU usage. The down-up-back looks a bit like a heartbeat on an ECG. Yes, this machine is an old quad-core i5, and a bit underpowered, but it was working fine for quite some time without hiccups.
Audio (which is going through OBS as well, and out the monitor channel to a virtual audio cable) does not hiccup but video does.ĭuring these hiccups, CPU usage will briefly drop, then spike up, to 80% all the way to 100%. Then it started getting into a mode where every 30 to 60 seconds, the video will freeze in the OBS screen, and Zoom will switch to gray screen (no camera.) Then zoom will come back but with frozen jerky video for a second or two and finally it will sync up.
I set up OBS to use via OBS-virtualcam with zoom and other tools, and it was working fine for several weeks. We tried calling comcast our internet provider and the hospital and we have troubleshot with them all.and they can't even figure it out. Most of the freezing problems I've seen have related to streaming. This issue has been going on for months now and we are stuck. Microsoft Teams works perfectly fine and does not have the same issue. She thinks it is the apartment itself, but then why does my Zoom have no issues? If it was the apartment layout/tech wouldn't it be affecting me as well? Btw all other video applications work for her no problem as well.
#Zoom video freezing plus#
We are thinking it has to do with the VPN, since she works for a hospital the security is super high.so maybe Zoom is having trouble communicating with the internet of our apartment plus the VPN security firewall is getting clogged up? I have no idea. We preformed an internet speed test and all of the speeds were high. It is not the internet connection at our apartment because she hardwired using an Ethernet cable and still had the same issue. She tried teaching at different locations like her parents house or onsite at the hospital and both of those locations had no issues, Zoom was working perfectly fine. We got a new modem, but still had the same issue. She used a different computer from the hospital and tried it, but still had the same issue. I use zoom on my laptop and share my screen I do not have this issue. Some troubleshooting for your information: We have literally tried everything to figure out what it is. When she is sharing her screen and teaching it freezes for like 30 seconds, then comes back and does that several times through out the session.
She works from home (we live in a new apartment that was built last year) and needs to teach remotely using Zoom. So my wife works for a hospital as a credential trainer. Okay this is a doozy.so if you can figure it out, I will forever be in your favor lol.
